Theology, fathers, and autism

It has been a long time since I have written on this blog. I am thinking about shutting it down and addressing issues that I would have written about here on my primary blog.

Here is something I wrote on that blog today that might have been written here.

Mouse-ward bound

Luc at Disney

The holidays for Luc this year have been much more about what comes next. He’s going to Disney World to pick up his sister, who has been with the college program this semester. Luc has been before and is really looking forward to it.

He reminds us dozens of times each day for the last couple of weeks that we are going to Disney. He is eager and excited and seems anxious to get going. Even more than usual, he’s a bit a loose ends during the day as he waits with no more patience than any of us can when we are excited.

He even wears his Mickey Mouse ears around the house. He normally hates hats. I hope Mickey is ready for him.

Happy New Year to you.

Thank you, Mrs. Schilke

Luc’s time with Kim Schilke came to an end this month.

It is a bitter-sweet time for Lisa and I. Kim has given Luc a wonderful place to learn and grow and be himself during the last few years.

It was not too long ago, that we were reeling after learning that his previous preschool was not equipped to support him. That school had been a tremendous blessing for our older children, but its fabulous teachers and staff were not what Luc needed, and the separation was painful for us.

Kim has been a God-send. We can only pray Luc will have more talented, passionate, caring, teachers in his life who both understand his needs and see the gifts he has to offer the world.

Thank you, Mrs. Schilke.

Discovering Autism

The Los Angeles Times has produced a series of articles and supporting materials on autism. It looks like lots of good information.
